Biography of Bob Ross

Robert Norman Ross served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, rising to master sergeant, before trading military precision for the soft touch of a paintbrush. With his gentle voice and signature perm, Bob hosted The Joy of Painting for over a decade, turning blank canvases into happy little trees and almighty mountains in just 30 minutes. “There are no mistakes, only happy accidents,” he’d say, giving millions the confidence to create. A true friend to animals and a quiet supporter of public television, Bob brought calm and joy into living rooms worldwide. He passed peacefully on July 4, 1995. His soothing presence still whispers: anyone can paint—and anyone can find peace.
