Biography of Vietnam War Veterans
From 1955 to 1975, millions of young Americans, along with allies and the people of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, were drawn into a long and divisive conflict. Over 58,000 American service members and more than three million Vietnamese, soldiers and civilians alike, passed during the war and its aftermath. Farmers’ sons, students, medics, pilots, and countless Vietnamese families faced hardship far from home or in their own villages. The Wall in Washington, D.C., bearing 58,272 names, and memorials across Vietnam honor their service and sacrifice. Veterans returned to build lives of purpose, while reconciliation efforts have fostered healing between former adversaries. Their memory strengthens the hope for lasting peace and gratitude for all who served.
