Biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Joan Ruth Bader was born in Brooklyn to immigrant parents who taught her the value of education. Graduating first in her class from Columbia Law while raising a young family, she faced doors closed to women—yet opened them for generations. As founder of the ACLU Women’s Rights Project and later the second woman on the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg argued and wrote landmark opinions advancing gender equality, voting rights, and human dignity. Known affectionately as “RBG,” her fierce intellect and trademark dissents earned admiration across the political spectrum.
