Biography of Mother Teresa

Born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje, she felt called to religious life at 18 and joined the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland before being sent to India. Teaching in Calcutta for nearly 20 years, she was deeply moved by the suffering she saw outside the convent walls. In 1946 she received what she described as “the call within the call” to serve the poorest of the poor. Founding the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, she and her sisters cared for the abandoned, the sick, and the dying with boundless tenderness. Her gentle smile and tireless hands touched countless lives. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she reminded the world that “not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” She passed peacefully on September 5, 1997, leaving a legacy of compassion that continues to circle the globe.
