Biography of Srebrenica Victims

In the green hills of eastern Bosnia, during July 1995, the town of Srebrenica—a designated UN safe area—fell amid the Yugoslav wars. Over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys, seeking refuge under international protection, were gently separated from their families and lost in the days that followed. Mothers, wives, and daughters waited in hope that turned to quiet remembrance. The Potočari Memorial Cemetery now holds thousands of white marble pillars amid peaceful meadows, where roses are laid each July 11. Recognized as genocide by international courts, their memory strengthens the promise “Never again.” Survivors and youth carry forward stories of love and dignity, building bridges of understanding across divides.
